Services/Solutions/System modernisation

    System modernisation

A phased alternative to the two options nobody wants: living with a system the business has outgrown, or betting everything on a single high-risk rewrite. We replace legacy platforms piece by piece, so the organisation keeps running throughout.

When this is the right move

    You'll recognise the signs.

A system nobody wants to touch

Undocumented, understood by one or two people, and so fragile that even small changes get postponed indefinitely. The risk isn't the system failing: it's that everyone is too afraid of it to fix anything.

    Vendor support has ended

The platform is running on software or infrastructure that is no longer patched or supported, and the organisation is exposed for every day it stays live.

A risk the board keeps asking about

Legacy technology has made it onto the risk register, but there is still no credible plan for retiring it, just a growing sense that something needs to change.

A business that can't afford downtime

The system runs core operations, so a big-bang replacement is too risky to countenance. Modernisation has to happen while the organisation keeps trading.

    How we deliver it

    Structured to remove risk.

Modernisation programmes usually fail in one of two ways: a rewrite that tries to replace everything at once and collapses under its own scope, or years of discovery that never turns into a working system. We take the strangler approach instead: replacing the estate in thin, working slices while the old system keeps running underneath, with one team accountable from the first risk assessment through to switch-off.

    01

    Assess the estate

A clear-eyed audit of what the legacy system does, who depends on it, where the data lives and where the real risk sits, producing a risk map the board can act on.

    02

    Sequence the replacement

We identify which parts of the system to replace first, usually the highest risk or the most constraining, and plan the cut-over in slices, not one event.

    03

    Replace incrementally

New components go live piece by piece alongside the legacy system, each one proven before the next is started. The organisation never has to stop and wait.

    04

    Decommission and hand over

Once a piece of the old system is fully replaced, we retire it, capture the knowledge it held, and document the platform your team now owns.

    What you get

    • Legacy estate assessment and risk map
    • Incremental modernisation plan
    • Re-platformed, supported systems
    • Documentation and knowledge capture

    What changes

    • Legacy risk retired in planned steps, not one high-stakes cut-over
    • Institutional knowledge captured before it walks out the door
    • A supported platform your team can change with confidence
    • The business kept trading throughout, with no downtime gamble
